James Robbins on Iraq

Since I'm not feeling particularly creative this week, here's a complete Corner post unapologetically lifted in its entirety:

The number of daily attacks in Iraq has fallen almost 95% from levels a year ago. Also of note, the murder rate in Iraq in November was 0.9 per 100,000 people. That is lower than the rate from before Saddam was overthrown. For those keeping score, the 2007 murder rate in the US was 5.9 per 100,000. Can we declare victory yet?

Mr. Robbins, victory shan't be declared until a certain well-spoken somebody can ascend to Office and get the credit for winning the war and withdrawing forces by 2011. Also, my flight leaves Raleigh at 5:30am tomorrow. That's the plane's departure time. I live literally 10 minutes away from an airport, but I chose to drive two hours away at times most people don't even know exist. Oh, and the flight arrives in New Orleans, so someone has to drive down there to pick me up. Is it worth all this inconvenience just so I can save a few hundred bucks on the plane ticket? YES.
